An update for the Access APS NZ Tax Application (2026.05) will be released on Monday, 29 June 2026, between 7 pm and 9 pm NZDT.
We are pleased to release an update to the Access APS NZ Tax Application, delivering improved accuracy across a range of returns, introducing enhancements based on customer feedback, and providing usability improvements to support a more efficient day‑to‑day workflow.
Enhancements
IR4: A summary section has been introduced to the IR4S summary screen, displaying total remuneration for each shareholder. This enhancement enables easier verification of figures without the need to generate a report.
IR4, IR6 and IR7: A warning message is now displayed in the validation summary when income is being distributed to a locked recipient return or where no recipient return exists. This improvement helps prevent silent failures during the distribution process.
IR7: A percentage allocation display has been added to the IR7P and IR7L summary screens. This shows each partner’s share alongside an overall total percentage, making it easier to verify allocations and identify rounding discrepancies without leaving the screen.
IR526: When syncing data from an IR526 donation tax credit return, the system was incorrectly adding a refund transaction to the ledger. This transaction will no longer be posted, as it is received separately via TDS.
All returns: Transfer function: The tax type dropdown list across IR3, IR3NR, IR4, IR6, and IR526 returns has been updated. The list is now sorted alphabetically, and an EMP (Employer)option has been added, which is transmitted to Inland Revenue as PSO.
All returns: Reports: A ‘Delete Reports’ button has been added below the Generate Reports button. You can now select and delete individual or all reports, with a confirmation prompt to prevent accidental deletion.
All returns: Client search: The client name search functionality for IRD numbers has been extended to additional fields. Where name and IRD number fields are presented together, autocomplete can now be used to quickly locate and populate the correct IRD number.
Cloud display: The left-hand navigation menu has been updated. The Help Centre label has been removed, and Access Customer Success Portal has been renamed to MyAccess including an updated link.
Return Improvements
IR3: Working for Families (WfF) overpayment and underpayment amounts are now displayed correctly with updated labels to clearly indicate whether the result is an overpayment or underpayment.
IR3: The validation message for overseas rental income has been enhanced. When rental income is selected in the Overseas Income keypoint, a warning will now prompt you to also enter details in the Residential Rental keypoint, reducing the risk of incomplete returns.
IR3NR: A new validation warning has been introduced to alert you when the Earner Levy deduction exceeds the Gross Deduction amount. Previously, this issue was only identified at filing, but users will now be notified earlier in the process.
IR6: An incorrect validation message relating to tax being paid by trustees has been resolved. The message will now only appear when the trust genuinely has no tax-related values entered, in line with updated Inland Revenue guidance.
IR6: The ‘TIN not required’ tick box for minor beneficiaries without an IRD number was previously inactive. This has been corrected and the tick box now functions as expected.
IR7: Residential rental income and deduction values are now displaying correctly. The total net income figure has been corrected, and the deductions claimed value now accurately reflects the lesser of total combined residential rental income or rental deductions plus any excess brought forward.
IR7: The residential rental distribution figure for one partner in a partnership was showing an overstated amount. This has been corrected.
IR3, IR3NR, IR4, IR6 and IR7: Incorrect values were being sent to Inland Revenue for residential rental deductions claimed when properties are in a portfolio.
Desktop Component Updates
This release includes updates to the desktop component.
You will need to download and install files from Access APS (New Zealand): Tax Release update 29 June 2026. Please note the files will be available from 30 June 2026.
The desktop update includes the following fixes:
IR8: The summary report was showing RWT tax credit deductions twice. While the totals were unaffected, the display has been corrected so deductions appear only once.
IR8: KP60 for Investment Boost will now map correctly to the report stream.
Student Loan: The Student Loan end-of-year assessment has been updated so the ledger correctly shows the breakdown of transactions, keeping your running balance and payment reminder letters accurate. The payment schedule summary now reflects the assessed value less payments and other transactions, giving a clear end-of-year debit or credit position.
All returns: An issue where creating a web tax return was clearing existing milestones from the tax matter has been resolved.
All returns: Milestones were being incorrectly created against tax return matters during rollover, even when the standard matter was set to ‘No Milestones’. This has been corrected.

Windows Update KB5094126 (or equivalent)
The current release includes a fix for NZ Tax to ensure that, when Windows Update KB5094126 (or equivalent) is installed, users can access Tax Manager from the Central Console without being prompted to log in a second time.
To enable this functionality, Practice Management (PM) version 11.4 must also be installed. PM 11.4 is scheduled to be available during the week commencing 29 June 2026, and we will notify you once it is ready for download and installation. You can learn more about this issue here.
