An update for the Access APS NZ Tax Application (2026.02) will be released on Wednesday 18 March 2026, between 7pm and 9pm NZDT. Following this you will be able file 2026 IR3, IR3NR, IR4, IR6, IR7, IR8 and IR1215 tax returns along with the attachments and complete Working for Families and Student Loan calculations.
The changes being made include:
New features for 2026 (cloud returns)
IR3 and IR3NR – updated tax rate calculations for 2026, updated ACC earners’ levy rate (1.67%) and maximum leviable earnings ($152,790), updated IETC calculation to use 2026 rates, and Student Loan repayment threshold confirmed at $24,128. Research and Development (R&D) tax credit fields and calculations added.
Working for Families worksheet – updated to use 2026 full year payment rates (single calculation period: 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026). Child name and date of birth now roll over when creating a new return, and the child start date defaults to 1 April.
IR3, IR3NR, IR4, IR6 and IR7 – residential property interest limitation keypoint and fields removed from all returns, with keypoints renumbered accordingly. Updated rollover functions carry forward relevant data from the prior year.
IR4 – added question on whether it is the company’s first year deriving assessable income
IR4 and IR6 – Research and Development (R&D) tax credit fields and calculations added.
IR4, IR6 and IR7 – CFC/FIF disclosure question reinstated.
IR10 – new field for Investment Boost assets added, updated validation preventing negative values on applicable fields, and a new 2026 schema applied. Information on this is in Tax New Zealand: New IR10 Field: KP60 Total value of Investment Boost asset(s)
2026 return improvements (cloud returns)
Transfer function enhancements – new codes for Family Boost (FMB) and Fees Free (FFR) added to the transfer function. Fix applied for transfer data with an incorrect date format.
IR3NR income attribution – income and expenses from IR7L/IR7P partnership forms, IR4S shareholder salary, and IR6B trust income now correctly attribute to non-resident IR3NR returns.
Bulk status management – new bulk move function allows multiple returns to be moved between statuses in a single action.
Locked return padlock indicator – a padlock icon now displays on returns in Approved status and beyond, giving a clear visual indication that the return is locked.
Various fixes – including correct report filtering for IR526 (no longer shows IR3 reports), tax return type now appearing on declarations, client details validation updated to accept brackets in names, delete return function updated to also remove associated reports, and a fix for the period end date filter strobing effect.
Desktop component updates
In this release there are changes to the desktop, so you will need to download and install files.
IR8 updates – residential property interest limitation keypoint and fields removed and keypoints renumbered accordingly. Investment Boost field (KP60) added to the IR10 within the IR8 return. Version control updated for April 2026.
