Tax New Zealand: July v2026.06 release

We're releasing an update to the Access APS NZ Tax Application that improves accuracy across several returns, adds helpful enhancements requested by customers, and delivers usability improvements to make your day-to-day workflow smoother.

When: Monday 20 July 2026, between 7pm and 9pm NZST

Enhancements

  • IR3, IR3NR, IR4, and IR6 — When creating a new return, the provisional tax calculation method selected (or rolled over from the prior year) will now automatically carry through to the new return, so you no longer need to re-select it.

  • IR3, IR3NR, IR4, and IR6 — If a provisional tax option other than 'Standard' is selected, the previously calculated value is now cleared for you to enter manually, and an on-screen message reminds you to check that the provisional tax payable is correct. The interim uplift amount is also automatically set to $0 when a method other than 'Standard' is chosen.

  • IR6 — The IR6S settlement question has been improved. Question 4 now defaults to 'Yes' for the most common scenario, with a clear prompt and validation guiding you through boxes 5–11 only when they're needed. This helps prevent return filing errors caused by missing details.

  • All returns — A tooltip has been added to the return calculation date field to clarify that today's date will be used for provisional tax calculations unless an alternative date is selected. A 'Today' button has also been added to the calendar picker so you can quickly reset the date.

  • Cloud display — The logo shown on our cloud services has been updated from 'APS Tax' to 'APS NZ Tax' to avoid confusion with other Access APS products.

Return Improvements

  • IR4 — Losses claimed and subvention payments were being treated incorrectly in some scenarios. The loss claimed field is no longer restricted, and the return now correctly displays and calculates total income/net loss and the loss offset amount.

  • IR7 — Residential rental income and deductions were being incorrectly attributed on the IR7L/P. This has been corrected.

Desktop Component Updates

This release includes updates to the desktop component. You will need to sign in to the MyAccess Portal, download, and install files from Access APS (New Zealand): Tax Version July 2026.06.

Note: The download file will be available from 21st July 2026.

The desktop update includes the following:

  • Tax agent details, IRD number, and disable rollover — As part of the ongoing move away from Tax Manager, the tax agent name, IRD number, and 'disable rollover' setting are now managed directly in the cloud return or Central Console rather than in Tax Manager. Any updates made in the cloud return will sync back to the desktop through the existing sync/confirm process.

  • IR6 — Summary reports now show the loss carried forward figure in brackets, for consistency with other reports.

TDS Updates

The service for collecting the tax transactions from Inland Revenue, Tuesday through to Saturday, has been updated. The update will ensure that our software is resilient, fit for the future, and quicker to update if requirements change.

Investment Boost on the IR10

Inland Revenue has asked to remind you that the value entered in KP60 on the IR10 is the total value of the assets on which you have claimed the accelerated depreciation (Investment Boost) for your client. For more information, read our Help Centre article - Tax New Zealand: New IR10 Field: KP60 Total value of Investment Boost asset(s).
