Tax New Zealand Error: 'Status Code = BadGateway... Content = {'message': 'Internal server error')'

An error occurred sending return to web Error Details: Status Code = BadGateway Response URI = https://nztax-api.access-aps.com/... /returns Content = {'message': 'Internal server error'), Response Status = Completed

The Web Return is not created and the workflow remains at Signed.

This error can occur in an IR4, IR6, and IR7 return where there is an unusual character, 'hard return' character in the name of one of the related parties.
For each of the Shareholders, Settlors, Beneficiaries, Partners listed, please check Central Console and ensure the Sort Name and Last Name Registered Name fields display correctly.

It is possible that a hard return character may have been incorrectly copied into one of the name fields.

This can be seen in Central Console as a number of blanks lines after the name in the field, for example:

  1. Delete the entire contents of the field in Central Console.

  2. Re-enter the correct name and ensure the blank lines have disappeared.

  3. In Tax Manager, open the Shareholder,Settlor, Beneficiary, Partner distribution form.

  4. Delete the related party that was causing the error.

  5. Add them back in together with any distribution details.
