We're releasing an update to the Access APS New Zealand Tax Application that delivers a significant new feature for residential rental income reporting, adds enhancements requested by customers to improve your day-to-day workflow, and corrects a number of return calculation and display issues.
When: Monday 24 August 2026, between 7pm and 9pm NZST.
Enhancements
IR3, IR3NR, IR4, IR6 and IR7: New IR3R rental income attachment: A new IR3R Residential Rental Income attachment has been built and is now available on these returns. This provides a formal rental income schedule consistent with the Inland Revenue paper-based IR3R form. The attachment can be generated as a separate report or included in the combined PDF bundle, appearing before the declaration page.
All returns Expense type pulldown list : A combobox (combined dropdown and text field) has been added to the expense modal. You can now select from a pre-defined list of standard expense types (e.g., Advertising, Depreciation, Insurance, Motor vehicle, Rent and rates) or enter your own free-text description. This speeds up data entry and improves consistency across returns.
Auto-calc: IETC calculation added: The Independent Earner Tax Credit (IETC) is now calculated within the auto-calc return when 'Income after expenses' or 'Number of qualifying months' is changed from the Inland Revenue payload value. Previously the IETC field relied solely on the Inland Revenue payload. This ensures the IETC is correctly recalculated when the tax return preparer updates income or qualifying month values.
Auto-calc: Confirm Return Only defaults to false: This ensures Inland Revenue will process all details in the auto-calc whether changed or not.
Auto-calc: Summary report updated : The schedular payments 'Payments offset expenses' line has been removed from the auto-calc tax summary report. The Expenses block now only displays when non-business expenses or schedular payments offset expenses has a value, showing only the relevant fields.
IR3, IR3NR and auto-calc: Part year reason clears correctly: When the part year indicator is set back to 'No', the dates and reason fields are now automatically cleared. Previously, validation errors would appear requiring you to manually clear each field.
Auto-calc: Part year reason dropdown fixed: It is now possible to select a Part Year Reason from the dropdown on the 2026 auto-calc return. Previously, selecting an option would not populate back to the field.
IR10: Whole dollar formatting; Monetary fields on the IR10 have been changed to whole dollars only, consistent with the Inland Revenue paper-based IR10 form. Fields now display '0' rather than '0.00', with an information tooltip explaining that values should be entered in whole dollars.
All returns: Rollover modal: The Residual Income Tax (RIT) field in the rollover/create return modal now applies the same auto-decimal formatting as other monetary fields in the application.
Assessed Returns: Year of return filter: A new Tax Year filter option has been added to the Assessed Returns dashboard, allowing you to filter by a specific year (e.g., only show 2025 or 2026 returns).
Assessed Returns: combined selection: A tick-box option has been added to select more than one tax type e.g. INC and REB together in the Assessed Returns dashboard.
Search/filter: Tax Year dropdown: The Tax Year field in the search/filter function has been changed from a text entry to a dropdown selection, listing years from 2016 to the current year. Text entry is also supported.
Search/filter: Tab key support: The client name search field now supports the Tab key to accept a highlighted selection and move to the next field, consistent with industry-standard keyboard navigation. Both Enter and Tab now work for selecting a client from the search results.
Return Improvements
All returns: The amendment reason now saves correctly the first time. Previously, it was necessary to re-select the indicator and re-enter the reason a second time for it to persist.
IR7: Residential rental income attribution issues with the partnership/look-through tax return (IR7L/P) have been corrected. The difference allocation and reporting now work as expected.
IR7: The residential rental deductions total has been restored to the Income and Tax Summary report. This was missing following changes made to the 2026 IR7 residential rental keypoints.
IR4, IR6 and IR7: The validation message for nil income distribution has been removed. Validation warnings for income attribution from an IR4S, IR6B or IR7L/P now only appear when the income value is non-zero.
IR6B and IR7; Validation rules have been reviewed and corrected to ensure all validations in the IR6B, IR7, IR7L and IR7P are in the return process and being called correctly.
IR526; A value that remained in the payment schedule after the IR526 form was deleted has been corrected. The payment schedule now updates correctly when the form is synced.
All returns: A status error that could occur on Lodge for some returns following changes to storing XML payloads has been resolved.
All returns : A minor UI display issue where the gap between the logo header and tax agent detail was reduced when the tax agent name required two lines has been corrected.
Desktop Component Updates
This release includes an installer file which will bring up to date all hot-fix files since release since March 2026.
The desktop update includes the following:
TDS transactions: SEPA refund fix: An error affecting TDS transactions for SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) refunds received prior to TDS v2 being implemented has been corrected.
Auto-calc transfer credits: The credit side of transfers to auto-calc and IR8 returns now posts correctly into the recipient's ledger. Previously, transfers from an auto-calc or IR8 did not create the corresponding credit entry for the recipient.
