Tax Australia: Lodgement Progress Service

Updated over a month ago

What is the Lodgement Progress service?

The Lodgement Progress (LDGPROG) service allows the tax agent to track the processing stages of their client’s return from when the return is received in ATO systems until processing is complete. This interaction is to provide the real time display of the progress of an Income tax return for both individual and non-individual client types. While the progress of return would ordinarily be related to the current tax year that a return is required, this service is able to track original or amended income tax returns lodged after 1 January 2010 for the 2005 financial year onwards.

Relevant return types

The returns that can be tracked are:

  • Individual income tax return

  • Company tax return

  • Trust tax return

  • Partnership tax return

  • Self-Managed Superfund annual return

  • Superfund tax return

How it works

The lodgement progress service can be run multiple times against each client in Tax Manager. It will always retrieve the latest information from the ATO regarding the selected client.

To run this service, open the Tax Returns screen in Tax Manager and click on the Lodgement Progress button in the bar above the returns.

Click Lodgement Progress button in Tax Manager

Once the Lodgement Progress button is selected, the SBR Profiles menu will display showing all the available machine credentials for lodgement purposes. Select your profile and click on OK.

A lodgement progress confirmation message will display explaining the ATO services limitations in regards to the tracking of return details:

If you do not wish to see the message again, tick "Don't show this message again". Otherwise, select OK to continue with the retrieval of data from the ATO.

Once the transmission is successful, the following message will display:

Click on the refresh button in Tax Manager and it will now display the latest ATO tracking data for the returns.

Note: The returns that will be tracked are returns that have been lodged or finished in Tax Manager. If you have returns that are not created in Tax Manager, lodgement progress information regarding those returns will be displayed in a report at the end of the transmission.

Return Attributes

In the Return Attributes screen, a new Lodgement Channel will show whether the return was lodged via paper, electronic, in person or over the phone.

Why is it reporting as Unmatched
An "Unmatched" result could be caused by the following:

  • The return does not currently exist in the database

  • There are no matching TFN or ABN's

  • The year of the return is before 2005

  • The Tax agent number is invalid or incorrect for the return

  • The Tax Agent ABN is invalid or incorrect for the return.
