Tax Australia: Process changes to ELS via SBR Lodgement

Updated over a month ago

ATO not providing response

For ELS returns, the ATO has now stopped sending the response payload which is used to update the returns status in Tax Manager. This means any ELS returns lodged via Batch Processing will not have their return status updated to Lodged.

Due to this change by the ATO, the system now produces “An unknown error occurred” during the lodgement process even though the return has been lodged successfully.

ELS Return process changes

The process has now been changed so that all ELS returns lodged via SBR will now automatically have their return status updated to be Lodged in Tax Manager.

Once an ELS return has been lodged, a green flag will be displayed in Tax Manager next to the return type to signify that an ELS return has been lodged.

The Details column will also notify the user to "Run the lodgement progress to get the latest ATO status update".

In order to get the latest status update for that return, a lodgement progress needs to be run.

For further information on how to run the lodgement progress, refer to Access APS: Lodgement Progress Service

Once a successful lodgement progress has been run, the flag and description will be cleared from Tax Manager.

Exceptions to this change

Use of the lodgement progress will retrieve the latest status for ELS returns. However, in cases where the return is before the 2005 tax year, the ATO lodgement progress service will not support those forms.

You will need to contact the ATO to determine the lodged return and then manually change the returns status in Tax Manager if need be. Or you can wait for the NOA to be received before updating the returns status.
