Hotfix files usually comprise of different file types contained in a .zip file for you to download. Below we explain how to install the hotfix components for the APS product range, not all steps are required for every hotfix, take the steps applicable for the particular hotfix you are installing.
Step 1 - Component Installation
A large number of these hotfix components are interdependent. ALL components must be applied on all machines where APS software is installed. All users need to be logged out of all APS applications prior to installing the hotfix files either on desktop or terminal server.
📌Note: before you begin:
Some operating systems will lock DLL files by default, copying hotfix files containing DLL files may result in problems during and after installation.
Prior to copying any files to Adv2000 please ensure that each file is unblocked first. This can be done by File, right click, properties.
New Zealand Tax Users - aps_t.mde file - Depending on how your APS environment is set up, this file must be copied to either your ADV2000 folder or in the network drive for each user.
Complete the following steps:
Ensure all users are logged out of all APS applications.
Download the hotfix file.
Right click on the zip file and click on the Unblock button if it is showing.
Extract/unzip the files to your APS downloads folder or suitable software folder on your network.
Ensure that all Advance applications are closed.
Copy all the component files (including .dll and exe) to every user Adv2000 folder or all terminal servers where APS is installed (i.e. everybody’s workstation), replace the existing files.
Step 2 - Run the version control
Some hotfix downloads may contain a version control or .mdb type file. Below are the steps to follow if a hotfix file contains a version control. If no .mdb file exists in the download then move onto step 3
Copy the version control file into the Adv2000 folder on one workstation.
Locate the version control file you copied into the Adv2000.
Double-click to run the file.
Follow on-screen instructions to upgrade the database. 📌Note: This file only needs to be run once from one workstation.
Step 3 - SQL Scripts
Some hotfix downloads may contain SQL scripts. Below are the steps to follow if a hotfix file contains a SQL script. If no .sql exists then your install of hotfixes is complete.
Ensure all users are logged out of all APS applications.
Go to SQL Server Management Studio.
Copy the .sql file to a folder on the SQL Server.
Double-click on the .sql file – it will open directly on Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
It will prompt to Connect to Server, once connected.
Ensure that the aps_dsql is selected as the database.
Execute the script using the execute button.
Exit out of SQL Server Management studio.
