An IR8 return can only be created and prepared in the desktop application. Once the return status is updated to Ready to Lodge, the IR8 is transferred to the web, where it becomes available for lodgment.
The web version of the IR8 is not editable and cannot be used to enter income or other details; its primary purpose is for reporting and lodgment. Reports can be generated from the web return in the same way as in the desktop version.
From 2027 onwards, IR8 returns are expected to be created and lodged directly via the web, similar to other tax return types.
