Practice Management: Create a Training or Testing Database for APS Practice Management

IT Team must create a Training or Testing Database to TEST the issue

Updated over a month ago

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Create a new folder in the C: drive and name the folder AdvTraining or AdvTesting.

    • eg: Computer - Windows (C:) - Adv Training

  2. Copy the following files from C:\Adv2000 to C:\AdvTraining or C:\AdvTesting.

    • aACentralApp.exe

    • aADBConf.exe

    • aps.acf

    • image.bmp

    • Note: aACentralApp.exe replaces aACentral.exe for Version 10/11.

    • Do NOT copy aACentral.exe into the second folder in case it is used in error.

  3. Create a shortcut to C:\AdvTraining\aACentralApp.exe or C:\AdvTesting\aACentralApp.exe on your desktop, and rename the shortcut as APS Training or APS Testing.

  4. Restore the production APS database as a different name such as APSTraining or APSTesting in the SQL server.

  5. Change the aADBConfig Database Name in C:\AdvTraining\aADBConf.exe or C:\AdvTesting\aADBConf.exe.

    • eg: In the Advance Database Configuration File Setup: C:\Adv Training\APS.ACF & in the connection string: DSN=aps_dsql;DATABASE=APSTraining;UID=admin;PWD=

    • In the APS console check at the bottom of the screen that says Database:APS Training so you know you have switched to the test & not live database.

  6. Change the DB Mode name via System and User Settings.

How to change the Database (DB) name
1. Open the System and User Settings application.
2. Select System from the View Setting drop down box.
3. Highlight the Central item from the left hand pane.
4. Change the text in the DBmode data field eg: APS Training - The name will then appear at the bottom of the APS console.
