Export transaction data from Xero
Note: The Xero user has to be setup as an Adviser to have access to the Export option.
In Xero, click on the Adviser Tab and click on Export.
Select the APS Accounting (XPA) option.
Enter the data range.
Export the Chart of Accounts or the Transactions into a TXT file.
Save the download file and locate it in the folder where it was downloaded to:
Note: XERO exports the transactions as Journals and in XPA it will be imported in the Journals section. The imports will not be listed as Bank Statements transactions. If these transactions have to be imported as Bank Statements, the .txt file will have to be manually edited to replace lines starting with 'J' to start with 'B'.
Use the chart mapping toolbox to import the transactions from Xero
In XPA V9.1.4 there is an Import Type for Xero - this option is exactly similar to the Generic Importing layout.
Open the TXT file in Notepad to make any changes, for example to change J to B to import the transactions into the Bank statements section in XPA.
Note: if the TXT file is opened in Excel the file may be corrupted and the information cannot be imported. This is a known issue at Xero.
Import using the Chart Mapping Toolbox.
Import the Chart of Accounts (if needed)
If the accounts used in the Xero ledger is different to the account codes used in the XPA ledger, you will have to import the Xero Chart of Accounts and setup a mapping to the APS Chart of Accounts.
Import the transactions:
On importing the transactions you can select the Xero or Generic importing option as they are identical.
Please deselect all the importing options to prevent XPA from applying the Account Tax Rate on import.
If no mapping is setup, click on OK to continue when this message appears.
A mapping is not needed if the account codes in the exported TXT file from Xero are the same accounts used in the XPA ledger.
Please refer to Access APS: Using the Generic Import of transactions into XPA for more information on the importing of transactions using the generic importing option.
