Tax New Zealand: Error: 'Failed to retrieve IRD Status: Return not Found'

The error message ‘Failed to retrieve IRD Status: Return not found’ appears when performing a Status update. The error: ‘Failed to retrieve return. IRD Response: Return held for processing’ is displayed when running a Retrieve update.

  • Your return is stuck at the Lodged or Lodge-Failed status, while the IRD Status is showing as Ontime-Processing (or Processing, or Late-Processing). If a Status update is requested, the above message is reported back.

  • This occurs because the return has been held up at IRD for further processing. Unfortunately the APS Status of these returns cannot be moved on until the IRD completes the processing at their end, and the IRD Status changes it to Processed. At this time, the IRD will issue the OPRCD or LPRCD notification, which will trigger the APS Status to move on to Assessed.

📌Note: It can take up to 10 weeks for IRD to complete processing when a return has been held up, so contacting IRD could accelerate this.
