Tax Australia: Trust or Partnership distributions not flowing through to the beneficiaries or partners

An issue has been identified in APS Australian Tax where distributions may not be synchronising correctly for some Trust and Partnership returns. As a result, distributions from the Trust or Partnership may not flow through to the related Beneficiary or Partner returns.

This issue occurs when the links between the distribution records become broken. In these cases, running a synchronisation alone will not resolve the problem.

Follow the steps below:

For each affected Beneficiary or Partner:

  1. Open the Trust or Partnership return from which the distribution is being made.

  2. Enter $0.00 into any distribution field for the affected Beneficiary or Partner.

  3. Click Synchronise within the Trust or Partnership return.

  4. Verify that the distribution now appears in the relevant Beneficiary or Partner return.

  5. Remove the $0.00 entry if required.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, follow the process below:

  1. Delete all distribution records from the Beneficiary or Partner returns (do not use Clear).

  2. Delete all Beneficiaries or Partners from the Trust or Partnership return (do not use Clear). This will remove all existing links between the returns.

  3. Re-add the Beneficiaries or Partners to the Trust or Partnership return.

  4. Re-enter the distribution amounts for each Beneficiary or Partner.

  5. Click Synchronise.

The distribution amounts should now flow through correctly to the related returns.

If the issue still persists after completing the above steps, the distribution details can be entered manually in the Beneficiary or Partner returns. Manual entry will not prevent the return from being lodged successfully.
